What Maintenance is Necessary for Servicing Electric Vehicles
Owning an electric vehicle comes with many perks and advantages, including less routine maintenance than a gasoline-powered model. That being said, drivers of electric cars and SUVs do still need to have them regularly maintained and serviced to keep the vehicle running strong. Whether you're looking into purchasing your first EV or you currently own an electric vehicle and would like to learn more about what it needs, we recommend taking a closer look at the suggested electric vehicle services and maintenance issues. Once you know what your EV needs, feel free to schedule an appointment with our service center today.
Routine Electric Maintenance for Your EV
Electric routine maintenance looks slightly different than gasoline-powered routine maintenance. Drivers of an electric vehicle won't need to worry about oil changes and engine tune-ups, as there's no gasoline or oil to worry about. In fact, all-electric vehicles tend to cost around $400 to $600 less each year in car service than their gasoline-powered counterparts. Some of the routine maintenance services we recommend for EVs are:
- Brake Service - When driving your electric vehicle around Newtown Square, the braking system will use regenerative braking to gain back some of the power throughout your drive. This friction on the brakes causes wear and tear, meaning you'll need to have brake service performed about every 7,500 miles. Brake services could include work on your brake pads, brake rotors, brake fluid, and more.Â
- Powertrain Service - The powertrain will have either a direct-drive or a multi-speed transmission that will need to have the fluid changed every so often.Â
- Coolant Service - As you drive around Wayne, PA, or beyond, the coolant in your EV removes heat from several critical parts of your EV, including the charger, inverter, and battery pack. Make sure that the coolant is well-filled and ready to keep your EV chilled.Â
- Tire Service - Every vehicle, including EVs, needs routine tire service to keep your tires ready for any Malvern or Devon, PA, drive. Schedule a tire rotation, inspect your tires routinely, and have your tires switched out when necessary.
Electric Battery Maintenance
A big part of electric vehicle maintenance is the battery. Generally, EV batteries are designed to last for anywhere between 10-20 years and come with long warranties. To help keep your EV battery lasting as long as possible, it's recommended to follow a few electric vehicle rules.
- Avoid fully charging your battery and completely draining itÂ
- Try to avoid extreme temperatures, which can negatively impact the batteryÂ
- Avoid using fast charges all the time. Instead, try to use the Level 2 battery charger more often.
