Performance
The Golf R get its speed from a surprisingly powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that can come through with 315 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Every new Golf R model has VW's intelligent all-wheel drive system and automatic transmission versions can take you to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds.
With the six-speed manual transmission you can still get remarkable acceleration that lets you make the run to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. The Golf R comes with a number of selectable drive modes that include an adrenaline-inducing Drift mode. This feature lets you do acrobatic tail-sliding maneuvers on slick surfaces. Yet with all this high performance, you still get excellent fuel efficiency. The automatic version gives you as much as 30 MPG on Malvern highways and the manual transmission delivers up to 28 highway MPG.
